In recruiting news, Penn State has offered a pair of prospects from what will be a priority state in the Matt Campbell era.
Akeem Jones Jr., a 6-foot-2, 215-pound ATH from St. Augustine Prep in Richland, New Jersey, and Davis Walker, a 6-foot-4, 200-pound DE from Cherokee HS in Marlton, have each been offered by Penn State.
Each are from the Class of 2028.
Jones also has offers from schools such as Boston College, Pitt and Syracuse.
Walker also has offers from Rutgers, Syracuse and Tennessee.
Both were offered by Penn State RB coach Savon Huggins.
Although neither player is a running back, Huggins is going to have a big hand in Penn State’s New Jersey recruiting because he’s a New Jersey guy.
Huggins is from Jackson, New Jersey, played at Rutgers in the early 2010s and then coached at Somerville (2016-18) and St. Peter’s (2019).
So he has connections, and those connections can help Penn State land some big time talent.
When talking with reporters in February, Huggins talked about the impact of Penn State recruiting in New Jersey.
“Oh, huge” he said. “Huge. Huge. We want the best players in New Jersey to come to Penn State. Like that ain’t no question about that. We want to dominate the state of New Jersey.”
Penn State currently has three New Jersey committed to its 2027 Class: Carter Blattner (Allendale), Ka’Ron Ceaser (Atco) and Jonathan Galette (Montvale).
PSU has one player overall committed to its 2028 class, with that being Deonte Flemings Jr. from McDowell High School in Pennsylvania.
