Penn State has added its second running back commit of the 2027 recruiting cycle.
Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.com first reported Thursday afternoon that PSU had received a commitment from Chukwuma Odoh, a three-star from New Jersey’s Paramus High School.
This is the fourth New Jersey guy that has committed to Penn State in this recruiting cycle, with Odoh joining Carter Blattner (Allendale), Ka’ron Ceaser (Atco) and Jonathan Galette (Montvale). The only state where Penn State has as many commits is Pennsylvania, which also has four. Odoh also joins four-star Aiden Gibson (Woodruff, South Carolina) as Penn State’s running back commits to this point.
Penn State offered Odoh March 7, and he has an official visit scheduled for the weekend of June 19.
Savon Huggins played a big part in Odoh’s commitment to Penn State for two reasons.
The obvious one is that Huggins is Penn State’s running backs coach, and Odoh is a running back.
The less obvious, but perhaps equally important reason is that Huggins is a big factor in Penn State’s recruitment of New Jersey.
Huggins is from Jackson, New Jersey, played at Rutgers in the early 2010s and then coached at Somerville (2016-18) and St. Peter’s (2019).
“I feel like going there and being coached by Savon, he’s the guy that can get me to where I want to be,” Odoh told Blue-White Illustrated. “He’s the guy that I think will develop me the best when it comes to the player I want to be.”
“But also, they just have so many great people there. From Savon to Coach Campbell to all the guys on their staff, I know they care about me outside of football and as a person.”
Penn State now has 17 players committed to its Class of 2027.
