Penn State Gains Commitment From Top South Carolina RB

Aiden Gibson - IG

Matt Campbell’s recruiting footprint at Penn State continues to expand with the addition of one of South Carolina’s top athletes.

Four-star Woodruff High School running back Aiden Gibson, who is ranked as the No. 8 overall player in South Carolina in the 247Sports Composite and the second-best running back in the Palmetto State, committed to the Nittany Lions on Tuesday.

First off, all, everybody, thank you to everybody in the show, you love and support throughout this learned journey. It has been a long time, just everybody dream, and I’m blessed by a lot of people around me, especially this time,” Gibson said.

“I can’t thank y’all enough for coming to show up your support, my family, my father, my dad, everybody. But think it’s something that everybody been waiting on, but for the next 3 to 4 years, about commitments, too…” with Gibson revealing Penn State as his choice.

After revealing that he told Penn State coaches that in two weeks he would be returning home, Gibson explained his choice.

I mean everything Penn State from academics…there’s no way you can go up there and fail, you know? I think that’s ‘RBU.’ That’s the place where you can go and ball. You know, offensively, they’re gonna use me how my high school uses me and that’s something I love deeply. And I’m just blessed to be in this opportunity.”

Gibson finished the 2025 season with 205 carries for 1,611 yards, averaging 7.9 yards per carry, and scored 21 rushing touchdowns. He also caught 24 passes for 387 yards, averaging 16.1 yards per reception, and added four receiving touchdowns.

At 6-foot-2, 203 pounds, Gibson is a big, powerful running back with impressive contact balance, lateral quickness and receiving ability. He also has the hands and route-running skill to be used out of the slot or in the screen game.

Once Gibson identifies the hole, his vision and body movement work in concert. He hits the crease with power and can lower his pad level effectively despite being a naturally upright runner.

Gibson came away impressed by his first visit to Penn State, saying that “everything stood out.” He quickly locked in an official visit to State College for June 12-14.

With Gibson’s commitment, Penn State’s 2027 recruiting class now includes pledges from 10 different states: South Carolina, Florida, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Ohio, Tennessee, Iowa, South Dakota and Minnesota.
