For some players, there’s months, if not years, between a school offering them and the player committing to said school, but that wasn’t the case with Penn State football’s latest commit.
The day after PSU offered David Tarawallie, the 6-foot-6, 265-pounder from Riverside High School in Painesville, Ohio, committed to PSU.
He also had offers from schools such as Cincinnati, Louisville, Michigan State, NC State, Nebraska, Pitt, Tennessee, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest.
All of these offers have taken place in less than a two month window, with Cincinnati being the first to offer March 14. He visited Penn State two weeks later.
Tarawallie went into detail about why he committed to Penn State in an interview with On3Sports.
“Being closer to home, (offensive line coach Ryan) Clanton’s history of developing guys’ bodies, a great business school and awesome facilities really pulled me in,” Tarawallie said when asked why he wanted to commit to Penn State now instead of waiting.
Tarawallie might seem undersized at less than 270 pounds for now, but there’s a good chance that situation changes soon.
“I don’t even think he is remotely close to scratching the surface of his potential,” Riverside strength coach Bryan Doberdruk told On3. “If you look at him, he’s a skinny 264-pound kid. He will probably play this year around 275 pounds and be an incredibly athletic 300-pound college freshman. I’ve been a strength coach full-time for 17 years, and I’ve never had a kid this size who moves so well.”
Penn State now has 15 players committed to its 2027 class.
