Penn State’s renewed emphasis on New Jersey recruiting continues to pay dividends.
The Nittany Lions picked up their third 2027 commitment from the Garden State on Saturday when St. Joseph Regional (Montvale, New Jersey) safety Jonathan Galette announced his pledge after returning to campus for a spring practice visit earlier in the week. Galette gives Penn State another important win in a state the new coaching staff has made a clear priority since arriving in State College.
Galette joins Northern Highlands defensive lineman Carter Blattner and Winslow Township cornerback Ka’ron Ceaser as New Jersey standouts already committed to Penn State’s 2027 class, a sign that the staff’s regional approach is starting to gain traction.
A big reason for Galette’s decision was his relationship with safeties coach Deon Broomfield. Broomfield re-offered Galette ahead of the January contact period and made him the first recruit he visited once coaches were allowed back on the road. That early attention helped lay the groundwork for Penn State to separate itself in a crowded recruitment.
Galette chose the Nittany Lions over Wisconsin and an extensive Power Four offer sheet that included Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio State, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech, and Washington.
The 5-foot-11, 170-pound defender is coming off a productive junior season in which he posted 46 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and three pass deflections. He also made an impact on special teams with a blocked punt, underscoring his versatility and playmaking ability.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Galette is the No. 22 prospect in New Jersey, the No. 50 athlete nationally and the No. 658 overall player in the 2027 class.
Penn State is not done in New Jersey, either. The Nittany Lions remain in the mix for several top Garden State targets, including Xavier Sabb, Aidan O’Neil and Adekunbi Adetayo.
