Penn State football has added its second commitment in less than 48 hours, and this one is the first tight end commit of the 2027 class.
Per Hayes Fawcett of Rivals.com, four-star tight end Cooper Terwilliger has committed to Penn State, picking PSU over Notre Dame among others recruiting him.
Terwilliger is the No. 9 tight end in the country per Rivals’ Industry Rankings, as well as the No. 1 player in South Dakota and the No. 194 player nationally.
The 6-foot-5, 230-pounder from Pierre TF Riggs High School had offers from schools such as Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kansas, Kansas State, Michigan, Michigan State, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Purdue, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M, UCF, Utah and Wisconsin, along with Penn State and Notre Dame.
Beating out Notre Dame for a blue-chip recruit is something plenty of Penn State fans will take extra satisfaction in.
In the 2026 recruiting cycle, ND beat out PSU for multiple top prospects, including five-stars Joey O’Brien and Khary Adams.
This is also a win for Taylor Mouser. The new Penn State offensive coordinator is also the team’s tight ends coach, and this is the first tight end recruit that has committed from the Class of 2027 under his watch.
Mouser had been recruiting Terwilliger since his days at Iowa State.
“Coach Mouser and I have developed a relationship since my freshman year,” Terwilliger told Lions247 earlier. “He’s been out to Pierre many times. I love how he coaches the tight end position and how comfortable his players feel being around him.”
Penn State now has seven players committed to its 2027 Class, as recruiting season is fully in session.
