Defensive Lineman No Longer With Penn State Program

Beaver Stadium will look different for Penn State fans this season.

Defensive end Jordan Mayer is no longer with the Penn State football program, a team spokesperson told Lions247 on Monday.

The reason for Mayer’s departure was not made clear, but the spokesperson said the redshirt junior had not been with the Nittany Lions since early last week.

Mayer, a former three-star prospect from Thomas Jefferson High School in Jefferson Hills, Pa., transferred to Penn State from Wisconsin in January 2024. He originally signed with the Badgers as part of the 2023 recruiting class after flipping from Boston College, choosing Wisconsin over a long list of offers that included West Virginia, Rutgers, Syracuse, Duke, Cincinnati, Virginia Tech and others.

After redshirting at Wisconsin in 2023, Mayer appeared in 15 games for Penn State in 2024, primarily on special teams. He finished that season with 1.5 sacks, recording a solo sack against Maryland and half a sack against Washington.

Mayer did not play in 2025 and was listed as “out” on all 13 Big Ten availability reports.

Penn State still has depth at defensive end under first-year head coach Matt Campbell, with 11 players currently at the position.
