Notre Dame linebacker Anthony Sacca has entered the NCAA Transfer Portal, Hayes Fawcett of On3 reported, making the former four-star prospect available with four seasons of eligibility remaining.
Sacca played his high school football at St. Joseph’s Prep in Philadelphia, though he is a native of New Jersey. A member of the Class of 2025, he was rated as a four-star recruit and ranked No. 344 nationally and No. 34 among linebackers in his class.
Despite committing to Notre Dame, Penn State was the school he visited most frequently during his recruitment, logging five trips to Happy Valley. Georgia and Ohio State were also among his top considerations.
Sacca’s entry into the portal will immediately draw attention because of his strong family ties to Penn State. His father, Tony Sacca, starred as the Nittany Lions’ quarterback from 1988 to 1991. During that span, Tony Sacca threw for 5,869 yards, a Penn State program record that stood until Zack Mills surpassed it in 2004.
He later guided Penn State to a Fiesta Bowl victory over Tennessee and was selected in the second round of the 1992 NFL Draft by the Phoenix Cardinals. Tony Sacca also spent time playing in NFL Europe with the Barcelona Dragons. Anthony’s mother was a collegiate soccer player at West Virginia.
Anthony Sacca did not see game action during his lone season at Notre Dame, instead using a redshirt year.
With four years of eligibility remaining, he now represents an intriguing potential legacy target as he explores his next destination.
