Penn State has added another one from the transfer portal, and this one is a defensive back from the ACC.
Late Friday afternoon, former Syracuse DB Ibn McDaniels announced that he had committed to Penn State.
He had interest from schools such as Kentucky, Rutgers and UConn, took an official visit to Temple and had an offer from James Madison.
McDaniels got some time for Syracuse as a redshirt freshman this season, appearing in 109 snaps over eight games per Pro Football Focus, with 78 of them coming in the first four games.
McDaniel played in 11 of Syracuse’s 12 games, with three being solely on special teams.
He’ll have three years of eligibility remaining.
Before Syracuse, McDaniels was one of the top high school players in New Jersey, ranking No. 12 in the state per On3Sports.
McDaniels also spent time at receiver in high school, catching 44 passes for 744 yards and eight touchdowns as a senior.
Penn State has kept most of its CB room intact, thanks largely to position coach and former interim head coach Terry Smith staying on board.
But the ones who did enter the portal— A.J. Harris, Elliot Washington II and Kenny Woseley— combined for 987 snaps in 2025.
Penn State also has Jeremiah Cooper— who played for new HC Matt Campbell at Iowa State— coming in from the transfer portal.
McDaniels’ high school defensive coordinator spoke highly of him in a Jan. 2024 interview with Sports Illustrated.
“Ibn is a remarkable young man who possesses a strong competitive spirit,” Henry Wilson said. “He is highly receptive to coaching and displays a strong worth ethic in his craft on the field and classroom. As a cornerback, he demonstrates exceptional skills in man-to-man coverage with excellent ball skills. Additionally, he is an excellent tackler. He’s physically gifted. At the Monmouth camp, he had a vertical of 39 inches and ran 4.40 (40-yard dash).”
