The 2026 recruiting class might end up historic for Penn State but not in a good way.
A class that once had 28 players committed might well end up at zero.
Right now, there are five players still technically committed to Penn State.
Of those five, all of them are currently looking at at least one other school. Penn State’s top rated commit, Matt Sieg, a four-star safety from Fort Cherry High School in the Pittsburgh Area, announced the day after James Franklin was fired that he was still committed to Penn State, but reopening his recruitment.
Penn State Commit Matt Sieg Still Committed, Re-Opens Recruitment
Jackson Ford— who, like Sieg, is from Pennsylvania (Malvern),— hasn’t wavered from his committed yet, and even told Nittany Sports Now that he had planned to sign with Penn State Dec. 3.
But considering Ford was at Virginia Tech this past weekend and Penn State still doesn’t have a head coach, it’s fair to wonder what Ford will decide.
In-state linebacker Terry Wiggins (Coatesville) is committed to Penn State but also looking at schools such as Colorado, North Carolina, Virginia Tech and West Virginia.
Tyson Harley, a four-star LB from Washington D.C., is looking at Rutgers and Virginia Tech and, per Brian Dohn of 247Sports, might even sign in February.
Amauri Polydor, a three-star CB from Baltimore’s St. Frances Academy, is also looking at Virginia Tech and Colorado.
As far as anybody can tell, there hasn’t been a recruiting class in NCAA history that has ended with zero commits, at least not at the Power Four level.
Of course, a lot of this has to do with the fact that these players committed to Penn State with the intention of playing for Franklin.
With that said, it would have been hard to imagine Penn State literally not having anybody signing. But it looks like that might happen.
