“They’re going to have to rip him from our bloody hands!”
Former BYU quarterback and program legend Steve Young was adamant on the Dan Patrick Show Tuesday that the program needed to keep head coach Kalani Sitake.
Despite serious interest from Penn State and being the reported leader in the clubhouse for the job, Sitake is likely staying at BYU.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, ESPN insider Pete Thamel reported that Sitake had begun to inform people at BYU that he plans to stay.
Significant steam and traction surrounding Sitake to Penn State picked up on Sunday and throughout the entire day on Monday.
Young told Patrick that it would be a huge loss for BYU.
“It would be super painful,” Young said. “There’s a symbiotic, beautiful thing going on between everything BYU and Kalani. I think he has the love for it too. The pain would be pretty extreme.”
Young admitted that it says a lot about Sitake and BYU that a program like Penn State would want to pry its coach.
It also helped that significant financial backing emerged over the past 24 hours to support Sitake at BYU. Crumbl Cookie CEO Jason McGowan tweeted Monday, “Some people are not replaceable. Sounds like it is time for me to get off the sidelines and get to work.”
The work paid off. Penn State is back to the drawing board, still without a coach, with the early signing period beginning on Wednesday, December 3.
