Charlie Cerrato Named to U.S. Collegiate Selects for 2025 Spengler Cup

Charlie Cerrato celebrates victory in the NCAA Tournament - Penn State Athletics

Penn State sophomore forward Charlie Cerrato has been named one of five players added to the United States Collegiate Selects (USCS) roster ahead of the 2025 Spengler Cup, as announced by College Hockey Inc.

Cerrato joins forward Aiden Fink and defenseman Mac Gadowsky, who were named to the USCS last week as returning All-Americans.

There will also be a familiar face behind the bench — Penn State head coach Guy Gadowsky, who was appointed head coach of the U.S. Collegiate Selects in August.

For the first time in the 102-year history of the Spengler Cup — the world’s oldest invitational ice hockey tournament, dating back to 1923 — a team composed of top NCAA collegiate players will compete under Gadowsky’s leadership.

The prestigious tournament, held annually in Davos, Switzerland, features elite club and national teams from around the world.

Cerrato enters the third week of the 2024–25 season as the nation’s leading scorer with 11 points — three goals and a national-best eight assists through just four games.

The sophomore has recorded at least one point in each game this season, including three multi-point performances. Dating back to last season, Cerrato has tallied points in 12 of his last 13 games, amassing 28 points (6 goals, 22 assists) with nine multi-point efforts in that span.

Last season, Cerrato became just the second Nittany Lion freshman ever to surpass 40 points, finishing with 42 (15 goals, 27 assists).

He led the Big Ten in every major offensive category and ranked among the national leaders:

  • 2nd among all NCAA freshmen in both points (42) and assists (27)
  • 4th in goals (15) among first-year skaters

The United States Collegiate Selects will open Spengler Cup play against Team Canada on December 26 in Davos.
