Penn State football’s coaches poll ranking of the 2025 season is out, and the team has moved up.
PSU started the season ranked No. 3 behind Texas and Ohio State.
Ohio State beat Texas in their showdown last week.
As a result, Penn State is now No. 2, and Texas has moved all the way down to No. 6.
This will surprise plenty of people.
Although Texas is 0-1 and Penn State is 1-0, many will feel that Texas being dinged five sports for losing to Ohio State by a touchdown on the road is harsh.
Nonetheless, that’s what the coaches have decided.
WHAT ABOUT THE AP?

The AP Poll is not yet released but it seems pretty safe to assume Penn State will stay at No. 2
Unlike the Coaches Poll, Penn Stats came into the 2025 season ranked ahead of Texas at No. 2.
With Ohio State a lock to be No. 1, that doesn’t figure to change.
Penn State’s high ranking is a reflection of where the expectations are for this program. Not since 1999 had Penn Stats gone into a season with this high of a ranking, and there are a lot of reasons for that.
The team came within a drive of playing for the national championship last season and returns most of its key players from that team, including QB Drew Allar, RBs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen and DE Dani Dennis-Sutton.
Yep, Penn State is loaded.

If this ranking holds up for a few more weeks, Penn State football’s White Out clash with Oregon will be a top five matchup.
This has never happened before in the history of White Out games, which date back to 2005.
No. 2 Penn State takes on FIU Saturday at Beaver Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for noon on the Big Ten Network.
