The future for Guy Gadowsky and the Penn State men’s hockey program got better with the commitment of in-state product Braden Horton.
Horton is the program’s first 2009-born skater to commit to the program, with skaters born in 2009 now eligible to commit to NCAA hockey programs.
Horton hails from Souderton, Pennsylvania and attends Shattuck-St. Mary’s in Faribault, Minnesota.
Last season, the 6’2” 181 pound forward played for Shattuck-St. Mary’s 15O team. Horton finished second in team scoring behind forward Bradley Whang (121 points) with Horton racking up 112 points (35 goals and 77 assists) in 57 games.
Shattuck-St. Mary’s Hockey Center of Excellence has been analogized as the Harvard Law School for U.S. hockey producing 36 USA Hockey national champions.
Notable Shattuck-St. Mary’s hockey alumni include current Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby (2002-2003), former Chicago Blackhawks center Jonathan Towes (2005), and 2024 Hart Memorial Trophy (league most valuable player) recipient Colorado Avalanche center Nathan McKinnon (2009-2011).
In April, Horton was named to the USA Hockey’s U17 team as part of its National Team Developmental Program for their 2025-26 season.
Horton is expected to join Penn State hockey following his commitments with Shattuck-St. Mary’s and USA Hockey.
The puck drops for Penn State men’s hockey 2025-26 men’s hockey program at the Mullet Arena in Tempe, Arizona against Arizona State on October 3 at 9:00 PM.
