Penn State senior quarterback Drew Allar was selected for his third major award watchlist.
After being named to the Walter Camp Award and Maxwell Award watchlists, the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award became the third major award to tab Allar to their watchlists..
The Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award is presented annually by the Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas that has been awarded to the nation’s best college quarterback since 1981.
The award is named for the former TCU quarterback who won the Heisman Trophy, Maxwell Awards in 1938 and guided TCU to a national championship.
Allar is 23-6 as Penn State’s starting quarterback and is one of two quarterbacks since 1956 (Bryce Petty – Baylor) with 800 or more pass attempts, 50 or more touchdown passes, and 10 or fewer interceptions.
Allar ranks first in Penn State history in completion percentage (62.9) and interception percentage (1.19).
Last season, Allar completed 262-of-394 passes for 3,327 yards and 24 touchdowns, while rushing for 302 yards and six touchdowns.
For a second consecutive season, Allar was named All-Big Ten honorable mention by the coaches and media.
Allar seeks to become the third Penn State quarterback to win the Davey O’Brien Award (Todd Blackledge – 1982, Kerry Collins – 1994).
The winner of the Davey O’Brien Award will be announced live on The Home Depot College Football Awards on ESPN on Dec. 11, 2025.
Penn State opens its season against Nevada on August 30 in Beaver Stadium at 3:30 PM on CBS.
