Hours after an article written by Evan Smith of The Daily Collegian outlined specific accusations of sexual assault, sexual misconduct and theft against Penn State wrestling legend Carter Starocci, a former national champ took to social media.
Pat Downey, who was the 197-pound champion for Iowa State in 2015, blasted Starocci on both Twitter and Instagram.
Two female Penn State students also accused Carter Starocci of sexual assault. Bartlett and another teammate also claim that Starocci would “constantly grab their genitals and place his fingers into their backsides during practices.”
Downey, known for being outspoken, didn’t shy away from giving his thoughts on the matter.

First on Twitter:
“hey @carterstarocci stop raping young women and thieving from your team mates you virtual signaling scum bag. ima slap the shit outta you across your mouth on sight. no bible quotes can save you from this one u ugly piece of shit”
On Instagram, Downey posted a screenshot of his Tweet and added more thoughts.
“Here’s another @pennstatewrest virtue signaling asshole that will more than likely receive no ramifications from the hypocritical governing body known as USA Wrestling. Do better @teamUSA cancel me for tweets. Fine. Say I’m not a good role model because I smoke a plant. Fine. But turn a blind eye to actual crimes of moral turpitude? Not fine. You & @carterstarocci are literal scumbags with the moral compass and ethics of a street swindler. Could you ever imagine standing on an ostentatious high ground while immoral, ruthless and corrupt code of life? 🖕🏾🖕🏾🖕🏾 this guy & if you support this guy fuck you too.”

Starocci and Downey have history with each other, both on the mat and on social media. The two engaged in social media beef both before and after their match at the 2024 Olympic Trials in State College, which Starocci won.
As recently as May 14, the two engaged in another beef.
Another guy Starocci has a history with commented on Downey’s Instagram post.
“👀” wrote AJ Ferrari.
Like Downey, Ferrari is a former national champ, winning gold at 197 for Oklahoma State in 2021.
Also like Downey, Ferrari has had beef with Starocci, only the two have never settled anything on the mat.

NSN reached out to a Penn State spokesperson for comment on the matter and has not heard back at this time.
