Parsons To Dallas: It is Over

Throughout much of the morning, according to league sources, the relationship between Micah Parsons and Dallas Cowboys management has been described as “deteriorating.”

If the situation between Parsons and Dallas Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones was on fire, Parsons X (Twitter) post in the last hour has dumped gasoline on the situation.

Parsons broke his media silence that started on July 22 and left no doubt that the relationship between him and Jones is over by Parsons asking to be traded.

Parsons has been among the elite EDGE rushers in the NFL since he debuted for the Cowboys in 2021 having earned four Pro Bowl appearances, three time All-Pro selections, 2021 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year, along with the fifth most sacks (52.5)  in the NFL behind Nick Bosa (53.5), Trey Hendrickson (57.0), T.J. Watt (58.5), and Myles Garrett (60.0).

With Parsons entering the final year of his rookie contract, where the Cowboys have the option to pay him just over $24 million for the 2025 season.

Parsons is attempting to get money closer to what Watt and Garrett received in their new contracts but the Cowboys brass hasn’t reciprocated.

Parsons, recalled in his most recent X post, about the spring conversation with Cowboys owner/GM Jerry Jones about his future.

The two camps had conflicting perspectives on those conversations with Parsons feeling his agent handled those negotiations, he felt the conversations were informal.

Jones felt those conversations were negotiations and that it had a deal, according to multiple league sources.

When Parsons sent his agent to begin negotiations on a new contract, the Cowboys declined to engage with him and told the pass rusher that they believed they already had a deal.

Since then, it has been an ugly war waged through the media between both camps.

Jones had a notable gaffe referring to Parsons as “Michael Parson” and an individual who herds cattle not quarterbacks. As well as reinforcing to all that he signs all the checks.

Prior to Parsons’ X post calling for a trade request, he last spoke to the media on July 22 when he said, “I want to be here. At the end of the day, they sign the checks. Let’s see if they want me to be here. I’ve been pretty consistent. If they don’t want me here, I’ll go about my business. I understand the nature of the business. As long as I’m here and under contract, I’m going to do what I have to do to perform at the highest level. But if this is the end, then this is the end.”

Parsons X activity broke his media silence late last night when he posted a GIF of Will Smith and Martin Lawrence tagging cornerback Trevon Diggs with the message “One last time.”

With Parsons officially on his side looking to separate, the question now becomes can money mend any fences between Jones and Parsons, like the Garrett situation in Cleveland, or is this Texas-sized feud ends with an ugly divorce between Dallas and Parsons.
