Trio of Penn State Players On Maxwell Award Watchlist

Penn State senior quarterback Drew Allar and running backs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen were named to the Maxwell Award Watchlist by the members of the Maxwell Football Club.

The Maxwell Award is one of the most prestigious awards in college football given annually to the Maxwell Football Club’s player of the year.

Allar has been one of two FBS quarterbacks since 1956 (Baylor’s Bryce Petty) to compile 800-plus completions, 50-plus touchdowns and 10 or less interceptions.

Both Singleton (2,912) and Allen (2,877) are both in striking distance to Evan Royster’s career mark of 3,932 yards.

Throughout much of the preseason, Singleton and Allen have been lauded as the best running back duo in the country.

Historically, Penn State is tied with Notre Dame with the most Maxwell Award recipients with seven.

Penn State’s last Maxwell Award winner was running back Larry Johnson in 2002.

The other six Nittany Lions to win the award are quarterback Richie Lucas (1959), two-way lineman (center/defensive tackle) Glenn Ressler (1964), defensive tackle Mike Reid (1969), running back John Cappelletti (1973), Chuck Fusina (1978), and quarterback Kerry Collins (1994).

Penn State opens the 2025 season against Nevada on August 30 at Beaver Stadium.
