As award season is upon us, Penn State senior quarterback Drew Allar is a betting favorite per Sportsbetting.ag to win the 2025 Davey O’Brien Award.
The Davey O’Brien Award is annually presented by the Davey O’Brien Foundation at the Fort Worth Club in Fort Worth, Texas to the best of all NCAA quarterbacks.
As of this writing, Allar has the fourth best betting odds as a 10/1 favorite to win the preseason award.
Clemson’s Cade Klubnik (6/1), LSU’s Garrett Nussmeier (5/1), and Texas quarterback Arch Manning (4/1) have better odds.
Manning’s uncle, former Tennessee quarterback Peyton Manning was the 1997 recipient of the award.
The recipient of the Heisman Trophy has been a quarterback 21 of the previous 26 seasons, with 16 of those winners having also won the Davey O’Brien Award.
Allar is seeking to join Todd Blackledge in 1982 and Kerry Collins in 1994 as Penn State quarterbacks who have won the O’Brien Award.
Since 1956, Allar has been one of two FBS quarterbacks (Baylor’s Bryce Petty) with 800-plus completions, 50-plus touchdowns and 10 or less interceptions. Allar enters his senior season with a 23-6 record, a program record 62.9% career completion percentage record, along with 6,302 yards passing and 53 touchdowns.
Penn State opens its season August 30 in Beaver Stadium against Nevada.
