Recruiting: No. 1 Player in PA Visiting Penn State

In recruiting news, the top-rated prospect in Pennsylvania is visiting Penn State this weekend.

Maxwell Hiller, a five-star Class of 2027 offensive tackle from Coatesville Area High School in, believes it or not, Coatesville, announced via X (formerly Twitter) that he’ll be visiting PSU Saturday, April 12.

This would be a big get for Penn State, both literally and figuratively.

It would literally be a big get since Hiller is listed at 6-foot-5 and 300 pounds. It would figuratively be a big get since Hiller is one of the best overall prospects at any position in the country for his class.

HILLER AND PENN STATE

So what’s the relationship between Hiller and Penn State? Well, it’s a pretty good one. Penn State offered Hiller in May 2023, becoming the first major school to do so. He then visited the school last spring for the annual Blue-White Game. Hiller went onto visit Penn State four more times between the end of spring practice and the start of the season. Once the season started, Hiller attended three of Penn State’s seven home games.

Hiller has been recruited since well before he started playing high school ball.

“When he was in seventh grade, a lot of schools were coming after him,” his high school coach, Matt Ortega, told PennLive late last month. “St. Joe’s Prep, I mean, everybody. I told my staff, ‘If we keep this kid, he’s going to be the highest-recruited player of my 30-year career.’ And they laughed. But I said, ‘Mark my words.’ I coached at Harrisburg, Lancaster Catholic, York, all during some of the best years of those schools’ histories. And I knew this kid was going to be the best player I ever coached.”

So who all is in Penn State football’s 2027 recruiting class as of now? Well, two of them are from PA, with Pittsburgh products Kemon Spell (McKeesport) and Khalil Taylor (Seton LaSalle) each committed. Hiller would be the first offensive line prospect to commit.
