PHILADELPHIA– Penn State wrestling is 1-0 in this year’s NCAA Championships so far.

Initially, it looked like 133-pounder Braeden Davis might be in trouble.

Davis, seeded No. 8, fell behind Bucknell’s Kurt Phipps (No. 25) 4-2 in the second period.

But a late takedown gave Davis a 5-4 lead going into the third period, and it was all Davis from there. A takedown and a near fall late in the third gave Davis not just a win, but a major decision and gave Penn State its first two points of the tournament.

Davis was the top seed at 125 last season but fell short of many’s expectations at nationals, not reaching All-America status (top eight).

He’s off to a hot start to reaching his goals as a sophomore.
