Penn State Wrestling

Good afternoon from the Bryce Jordan Center. It’s an impromptu dual meet with Wyoming in the BJC this afternoon due to volleyball playing in the NCAA Tournament in Rec Hall later this evening. Follow along for the action with the meet starting at 1 p.m. Penn State coach Cael Sanderson is going for his 250th win of his career.

125 – Luke Lilledahl had his first taste of a home crowd at Penn State, and he did not disappoint. Lilledahl had five takedowns in the match, and also picked up five back points in a 21-5 technical win over the Cowboys’ John Braman.

133 – Braeden Davis looks completely recovered from an injury in the Drexel match, getting a technical fall of Wyoming’s Stockton O’Brien. Davis took O’Brien to his back in the third period for four back points before O’Brien bellied out to avoid the fall.

141 – If you blinked, you missed Beau Bartlett. Bartlett picked up a pin in 43 seconds over Wyoming’s Cole Brooks.

149 – Although Shayne Van Ness gave up a takedown to Wyoming’s Gabe Willochell, Van Ness got him back with back-to-back falls to make it 22-0. Van Ness worked his way to a 10-5 lead before getting the pin.

157 – Tyler Kasak was slapped by the Cowboys’ Jared Hill early in the match, but Kasak was able to shake it off and still get a 16-3 major decision. Kasak got three takedowns in the bout, plus a penalty point for the slap and three back points.

165 – Mitchell Mesenbrink was as dominant as ever coming out of intermission. The sophomore opened up an 11-0 lead after one period after two sets of four back points. He finished with an escape and a takedown in the second, and after a riding time he put up a 16-0 technical fall on Wyoming’s Cooper Voorhees.

174 – PSU’s Levi Haines continued the domination, this time picking up a pin on Wyoming’s Riley Davis in 2:25.

184 – Carter Starocci did, well, Carter Starter Starocci things. He picked up a fall in 1:38 over Wyoming’s Ethan Ducca.

197 – Josh Barr gave Penn State its fifth pin of the day in 1:48 over Wyoming’s Brant Whitaker.

285 – Greg Kerkvliet finished up the dual meet with his team’s fourth technical fall of the day, beating the Cowboys’ Kevin Zimmer, 19-3, in 3:28.
