Penn State has won 12 games in a season three times in program history, and while the Nittany Lions have hit the 11-win mark a few times, a 12-win season hadn’t happened since 1994.

Until now.

With a 38-10 win over SMU, Penn State has clinched its first 12-win season. since 1994.

It’s the fourth 12-win season in history (1973, 1986 and 1994).

The win takes Penn State to the quarterfinal of the College Football Playoff, which is a massive opportunity for Penn State.

For the most part, Penn State has rolled through its schedule this season, starting with a 34-12 victory at West Virginia to kick off the season. The non-conference slate included wins against WVU, Bowling Green and Kent State.

Now, Penn State has a playoff win. No. 6 PSU takes on No. 3 Boise State at 7:30 on New Yearโ€™s Eve.
