Penn State is looking to capitalize following a major college coaching change.
On Tuesday, North Carolina announced the firing of legendary head coach Mack Brown. While Brown may have struggled on the field, recruiting is an area in which he’s always been able to excel in.
Following the news of his dismissal, current commitments in the Tar Heels Class of 2025 have begun to reevaluate their options.
One of those players is talented quarterback Bryce Baker.
Baker is a 4-star recruit from Kernersville, North Carolina and has been committed to the North Carolina program since June of 2023. Rivals ranks Baker as the No. 7 quarterback and the No. 78 overall player in the Class of 2025.

Despite holding a commitment from 4-star quarterback Bekkem Kritza, it’s no secret that Penn State would like to add a second signal caller to this year’s class. They worked really hard to try and flip 4-star Matt Zollers, but it appears that he’ll remain committed to Missouri.
The Nittany Lions staff apparently have turned their efforts to do the same with Baker.
Steve Wiltfong from On3Sports is reporting that Baker will be at Beaver Stadium this weekend for the Maryland game.
This morning, Baker’s father had this to say to Adam Friedman from Rivals.com about his son’s current situation with North Carolina.
“Bryce remains 100% committed to UNC and hopes his future college football days will be spent in Chapel Hill,” Baker’s father Mike told Rivals.com. “He has a great relationship with Coach Chip Lindsey (North Carolina’s offensive coordinator) who he hopes will be on the coaching staff of the new incoming head coach and who has been an incredible mentor, regardless of the uncertainty surrounding his status following Coach Brown’s departure.”
“That said, Bryce may explore visits to other universities to ensure he has options, just in case the new coaching staff does not have him in their plans.”
Mr. Baker mentioned LSU as another school that Bryce may visit.
National Signing Day is just one week from today, so the next seven days will no doubt be interesting.
