According to the 247Sports’ composite score, Mingo is the highest-rated recruit in PSU history with a .9818.
The No. 42 overall recruit and No. 2 recruit in New York was down to Penn State and Wake Forest as of Thursday, per Tyle Calvaruso of 247Sports.
“[Penn State] is the best place I could thrive,” Mingo told the Breakfast Club early Friday morning.
After he visited PSU in September, Mingo said โThe visit was excellent overall.”
โThe energy at Penn State is second to noneโฆ The coaches told me they plan on me coming in and they want me to be their point guard and run the showโฆ I loved the fit and really enjoyed how Coach Rhoades explained to me the vision he has in place for me.โ
Mingo spent the last two seasons playing alongside Baylor signee VJ Edgecombe at Long Island Lutheran, ESPNโs fourth-ranked team at the end of last season. In the Nike EYBL Scholastic, Mingo averaged 15.2 points and 4.0 assists while netting 43.6 percent of his threes.
During his last AAU summer, Mingo played for the PSA Cardinals in the Nike EYBL Circuit, averaging 12.3 points, 4.2 assists and 2.1 steals.
Head coach Mike Rhoades continues to bring in high-end talent for Penn State. Before even his second season at the helm, Rhoades has gotten commitments from two of the three highest recruits in Nittany Lions’ history (Miles Goodman ’24 and Kayden Mingo ’25).
