To break a single-game record at a place like Penn State is an accomplishment, and Tyler Warren is that type of dude.

To break your own record, well, that’s just something else.

A little more than a month after Penn State tight end Tyler Warren broke the school-record for in-game reaching yards by a Penn State tight end, he broke his own record against USC.

Warren’s 32-yard touchdown reception early in the third quarter against USC put him within 10 yards of his own mark of 146.

He got the record on the next possession.

Before the season, coach James Franklin told reporters he felt Warren was “the most complete tight end in the country.” He’s lived up to that billing thus far.

“He truly is a weapon in the run game as a blocker, he truly is a weapon on third down in the passing game,” Franklin said after practice in late August.

“Those are the tight ends, in my opinion, when you talk to defensive coordinators all over the country, they’re the ones that they hate. … The guys like Tyler, there’s not many of them across the country that can do both, and they cause a lot of headaches,” Franklin said.

Before Penn State, along with being an All-State baseball player and four-time All-Region selection in basketball, Warren captained the football team in three of his four seasons at Atlee High School. He had a successful career at Atlee, three times earning all-region honors and twice making all-state.

Warren played quarterback in high school, which is far different from his current position at Penn State. A duel threat, Warren threw for 1,149 yards and 14 touchdowns as a senior and also rushed for 677 yards and 10 scores that season.
