What Penn State knew and saw from one of its biggest stars last season is beginning to translate in the NFL.

Tyler Warren is one of the most accomplished tight ends in program history, becoming the first John Mackey Award winner in program history while finishing seventh place in Heisman voting during his senior year.

After being drafted 14th overall by the Indianapolis Colts in the 2025 NFL Draft, Warren is making an immediate impact on the Colts’ hot start.

Warren leads all tight ends in receiving yards (155), yards after the catch (92), and is tied for first in contested catches (three) over the first two games. The Colts are 2-0, and quarterback Daniel Jones is consistently looking Warren’s way with 16 targets.

Warren is Penn State’s single-season record holder in receptions (104 in 16 games) and owns single-season tight end records at PSU and in the Big Ten for catches and receiving yards (1,233).

He hasn’t dropped a pass in their early going. Warren is off to a similar start as Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers a season ago.

In their first two games, Bowers had four additional catches, one target, and one more yard than Warren, splitting hairs on the results of two solid pass catchers.

Warren ranks first all-time in total touchdowns responsible for by a Penn State tight end (25 – 19 receiving, 6 rushing), receptions (153), receiving yards (1,839), and receiving touchdowns (19).

Warren’s versatility was on display last season when he threw for a touchdown (Kent State), rushed for 218 yards on 26 carries, and scoring four rushing  touchdowns during the 2024 season, leading Penn State to the College Football Playoff Semifinals at the Orange Bowl.

His best game came in a record-setting performance against USC, where Warren set Penn State and Big Ten records for a tight end when he caught 17 passes for 224 yards and one touchdown in a 33-30 overtime victory.

Indianapolis plays division rival Tennessee and No. 1 overall pick Cam Ward in Nashville on Sunday at 1 p.m.
