Drew Allar Injury: Penn State HC Gives Encouraging Update

Penn State coach James Franklin said not playing Drew Allar in the second half came down to him being healthy enough to lead the offense the way Penn State wanted him to.

Penn State fans will be encouraged by Coach James Franklin’s update on QB Drew Allar.

As expected, Franklin didn’t say whether Allar— who didn’t play during the second half of the team’s 28-13 win at Wisconsin this past Saturday night with an apparent knee injury— would or wouldn’t play Saturday against Ohio State.

But Penn State beat reporters saw how Allar looked during Wednesday’s media viewing window into practice and then heard the head coach afterward.

“At this stage, no new information for you guys,” Franklin told reporters after practice. “But so far, so good. Getting both Beau (Pribula) and Drew a ton of reps in practice.”

BEAU KNOWS

Beau Pribula made sure history didn’t repeat itself, going 11-for-13 for 98 yards and a touchdown during Penn State football’s 28-13 win at Wisconsin Oct. 26.

If Allar can’t go Saturday, Pribula is the next man up, and based on how Pribula performed in the second half at Wisconsin, Penn State could be a lot worse off. Pribula didn’t just do enough not to hurt Penn State, he was an asset, completing 11 of 13 passes for 98 yards and a touchdown. If that’s the real Beau Pribula, Penn State fans could be in for a treat.

WHAT WE SAW AT PRACTICE

Before exiting Penn State’s win over Wisconsin Saturday, Oct. 26, QB Drew Allar was 14 of 18 for 148 yards and a touchdown

Media never gets to see too much at Penn State practice— for obvious reasons— but what we saw of Allar was promising.

If one didn’t know any better, they’d think Allar wasn’t hurt.

Penn State and Ohio State are scheduled to kick off at noon on Fox. It’s No. 3 vs. No. 4.
