Coming off of their 34-12 pasting off West Virginia in the 2024 season opener and considering the opposition, it comes as no surprise that Penn State football is a huge favorite in their home opener.
In the just released lines for the coming weekend, James Franklin and Penn State have been installed as 29.5-point favorites, per Fan Duel, over the Bowling Green Falcons of the MAC conference. Currently, the over/under sits at 49.5 points.
The Nittany Lions entered the West Virginia game as 7.5-point favorites, so that easily covered as they won by 22 points.
Bowling Green opened their 2024 season on Thursday night defeating Fordham easily by the score of 41-17. They entered the game as 15.5-point favorites.
The star of the game for the Falcons was running back Terion Stewart, as he rushed 14 times for 161 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Connor Bazelak returns as Bowling Green’s quarterback. In the opener, the 6-foot-3 senior was 15-for-22, 168 yards passing, while rushing for 27 yards and 1 touchdown. Last season, Bazelak passed for 1,930 yards, 12 touchdowns and 7 interceptions.
For the game, Bowling Green rushed for 305 yards, but their defense allowed 401 yards to Fordham, which doesn’t bode well for their chances of stopping a very talented Penn State offense.
Saturday’s game will be the third time that these two programs have played, with Penn State winning the first two matchups. The most recent game took place in 1998 with Penn State overwhelming Bowling Green, 48-3.
Kickoff from Beaver Stadium will take place at Noon and the game will be televised on the Big Ten Network.
