One of Penn State football’s Class of 2025 commits is now a four-star recruit.
Friday afternoon, 247Sports updated its ratings, and the son of one of Penn State’s greatest players has been elevated.
LaVar Arrington Jr., a star at Charter Oak High School in Covina, California who, like his father, is a linebacker, is now a four-star, as well as the No. 27 overall player in California from his class and the No. 23 linebacker in the country. He ended his junior season in 2023 with 65 tackles, nine hurries, 12 sacks and an interception. He also caught six passes for 69 yards and two touchdowns.
Penn State offered him in November. Since than, he visited Happy Valley for the Blue-White Game in April and took an official visit the weekend of June 21. He also took an OV to UCLA the last weekend of May and Tennessee the weekend of June 14.
In a scouting report, 247Sports’ Gabe Brooks wrote that although Arrington is listed as a linebacker, he’s capable of playing other positions in college.
“While he’s projected to linebacker, the Penn State pledge could certainly shift to a full-time edge role if desired, and his pass-rush instincts, athleticism, and playmaking knack would shine,” Brooks wrote. “Arrington ran a promising 11.18-second 100-meter time this past spring, and he’s also gotten useful offensive reps during his high school career. Regardless of alignment, Arrington represents a prospect we on the national scouting team are extremely hopeful of in the long term. In addition to the new four-star designation, Arrington garnered an All-American Bowl invitation this week as a result of his stellar first month of the season.”
