One thing that’s clear at the start of the 2024 college football season is that everyone believes Penn State is one of the Top 10 teams in the country.
After being ranked No. 8 and No. 9 in the AP top 25 and the College Football Coaches Poll, Penn State is ranked highly by another outlet.
On Monday morning, ESPN.com released their Top 25 Power Rankings and James Franklin’s program comes in at No. 8.
Here’s the Top 10 per ESPN’s college football experts: 1) Georgia 2) Ohio State 3) Oregon 4) Texas 5) Alabama 6) Notre Dame 7) Ole Miss 8) Penn State 9) Michigan 10) Florida State.
Other Big Ten teams in the Top 25 were USC at No. 23 and Iowa at No. 25.
One of the reasons so many people feel the same way about PSU is because of the addition of new offensive coordinator Andy Kotelnicki.
Many are betting on Kotelnicki having the ability to fully unleash the potential in starting quarterback Drew Allar. With 25 touchdowns and only 2 interceptions, Allar was Ok on paper but he wasn’t a threat vertically. For this Penn State offense to truly become a great, Allar has to be able to make chunk plays down the field.
Penn State has one of the best running back duos in the country, multiple weapons at tight end, a solid offensive line and will once again field an above average defense.
If Kotelnicki can get this offense to perform like his offenses at Kansas did, Penn State will have a shot at making the college football playoffs.
PSU will be tested early as they open the season next Saturday taking on West Virginia in Morgantown.
