Most people expect Penn State to beat West Virginia Week 1 in Morgantown.
Penn State is ranked No. 8.
West Virginia is unranked. Although the spread has moved in favor of West Virginia, Penn State’s still favored by more than a touchdown, which is significant, especially for a road game. But if Pat McAfee expects Penn State to beat his Alma Mater, he won’t say so publicly. Last season, he was the only panelist to pick WVU to win in Happy Valley before a 23-point PSU win.
This season, he’s again hyping up WVU.
“Penn State has a monster Week 1,” McAfee said on ESPN’s College GameDay Saturday morning.“Everything can change in the Big Ten conversation after one day in Morgantown, West Virginia.”

You’ll never guess which College GameDay panelist said this.

Last week, McAfee said West Virginia was“about to run wild” on Penn State.
He’s not the only national analyst showing WVU some love ahead of Week 1.
“That is a tough game,” Fox analyst Joel Klatt said in an appearance on“The Herd” with Colin Cowherd last week, “because West Virginia got on a hot streak late last year. They got some good players and that environment is going to be incredible. Can’t wait for Country Roads.”
Penn State coach James Franklin knows the situation PSU will be walking into Aug. 31 at noon.
“It’s hornet’s nest,” Franklin said when asked about starting the season on the road against West Virginia at Big Ten Media Days last month
“They take a lot of pride in their football team. They’ve got no pro team, so it’s all about West Virginia, all about Morgantown. So it will be a great environment to play in.”
