The wait is finally over: Penn State plays football against WVU today.
It will be a rematch of last year’s Week 1 matchup, and although the circumstances are different— a noon kick in Morgantown instead of a night game in Happy Valley— Penn State is hoping for the same result against WVU, which would be a win.
Drew Allar had arguably his best game as a college QB against West Virginia, which happened to be his first start. He went 21 of 29 with 325 yards, three touchdowns and no interceptions. Allar’s opposite, Garrett Greene, is no slouch, either.
Greene ended last year with a 15-4 touchdown-interception ratio and a QBR of 75.8 that ranked 20th in the country. He added 708 yards and 23 touchdowns on the ground, averaging 6.4 yards per carry. Greene is one of America’s best dual-threat quarterbacks and will be a handful for Penn State.
Both quarterbacks could be impacted by the weather.
Clear skies are expected until two.
After that, there’s a 40% chance of rain at 2, which increases to a 70% chance from 3-5, which should take everyone through to the end of the game. If it does rain, both teams could have to utilize the ground game more so than planned, and each team has a dynamic RB duo. For Penn State, Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen are back for their third season. WVU has two strong running backs in Jaheim White (842 yards, four touchdowns, 7.7 yards per carry in 2023) and CJ Donaldson Jr. (798 yards, 11 TD, 4.7 YPC), but Penn State’s defensive line could also be one of the best in the country.
Plenty of Penn State fans will be making the trip to Morgantown. For those who aren’t, here’s how to watch and listen to the game.
