The son of one of the greatest players in Penn State history has committed to PSU.

Early on Fourth of July afternoon, LaVar Arrington II— the son of, as you might imagine, LaVar Arrington— announced his commitment to Penn State.

The younger Arrington is a three-star ATH from Charter Oak High School in Covina, California.

Penn State offered him in November. Since than, he visited Happy Valley for the Blue-White Game in April and took an official visit the weekend of June 21. He also took an OV to UCLA the last weekend of May and Tennessee the weekend of June 14.

The older Arrington, of course, is one of the best linebackers in the history of a school known for linebackers.

During his college career, which lasted from 1997-99, Arrington was a two-time All-American and won the Butkus Award for the nation’s best LB and the Badnarik Award for the the nation’s best defensive player in 1999.

From there, Arrington was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2000 draft, going to Washington. Arrington played seven NFL seasons, making three Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams. More than a decade and a half after his retirement, Arrington was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame.

The younger Arrington talked with On3Sports about how his dad helped him through the recruiting process.

“Having him helps me with making a decision,” Arrington II told VolQuest when asked about his dad’s impact on the recruiting process. “He not only went through what I went through but he is smart and has a football mind too, so it is not like he is pressuring me to go to Penn State or anything like that. This is strictly my decision.”

Penn State now has 21 players committed to its Class of 2025.
