Penn State was hoping to get a visit from talented defensive end Jayden Loftin and eventually receive a commitment but that’s not going to happen.
The 4-star defensive end from Somerville, New Jersey announced on Wednesday morning his commitment to Josh Heupel and the Tennessee Volunteers.
Loftin made this decision after taking an official visit to Knoxville this past weekend. Loftin was scheduled to make an official visit to Syracuse this coming weekend and then Penn State on June 21st but decided to end his recruitment.
Many recruiting insiders, including Rivals.com, had Loftin forecasted to commit and being a heavy lean towards Penn State but that did not happen.

Loftin had this to say about this decision in an interview with On3’s recruiting insider Chad Simmons, “I went into that visit with high interest in Tennessee because I liked the coaches and how they ran their program, then on the official visit, I got the feeling that it was the place for me,” said Loftin. “The coaches care about their players, and they want them to achieve their lifelong dreams. Even if it’s not the NFL, Tennessee wants their guys to make it outside of football.”

Rivals.com had the 6’4″, 250-pound Loftin rated as a Top 10 prospect in New Jersey and one of the Top 25 defensive ends in the Class of 2025. With 20+ Power Four offers, Loftin recently named a Top 7 of Penn State, Minnesota, South Carolina, Syracuse, Tennessee, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Penn State is still looking for their first commitment from a defensive end in their Class of 2025.
