Penn State football’s recruiting hot streak continued Monday evening.
PSU got two commitments over the weekend, and on the first day of the new work week, has picked up another one.
The latest commit is Max Granville, a four-star, 6-foot-3, 225-pound DE from Sugar Land, Texas.
He’s the No. 9 DE in the country per Rivals.com
Granville picked Penn State over regional powers Oklahoma and Texas A&M, among others. He also had offers from schools such as Alabama, Auburn, Cincinnati, Duke, Florida, Georgia, Houston, Indiana, Kansas, LSU, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Missouri, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, SMU, Syracuse, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas Tech, USC and Wisconsin.
Granville took his official visit to Penn State the last weekend of May and followed that up with officials to USC (June 7-9), Texas A&M (June 13-15) and Oklahoma this past weekend. Hours before he announced his commitment to Penn State, James D. Jackson, who covers Oklahoma for 247Sports, placed a Crystal Ball projection for Granville to commit to Oklahoma. But the other two projections— courtesy of Tyler Calvaruso of Lions247 and Collin Kennedy of Sooners Illustrated (247 network), picked Granville to go to Penn State.
Granville first visited Penn State this past March, and told Blue-White Illustrated he was impressed with how Penn State’s defense— which was arguably the best in the country in 2023– plays.
“My favorite part was when I watched some cutups with Coach (Deion) Barnes,” Granville said. “Just watching from last season alone, seeing how many TFLs and stuff they had, it showed me a lot about their defense and how they just let guys kinda play. Some other programs are more strict and tighter with certain assignments. He has his principles and just kinda lets his guys do what they do, which I like a lot.”
Penn State now has 18 commitments in the 2025 class, and June is not over yet.
