Penn State cornerbacks coach and defensive recruiting coordinator Terry Smith has been cooking with gas lately.
Last week, the No. 10 CB in the Class of 2025, Daryus Dixson, from California’s famous Mater Dei High School, committed to PSU coming off his official visit.
Seven days later, another blue-chip CB from much closer to Happy Valley committed coming off his official visit weekend.
It’s Jahmir Joseph, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound CB from St. Joseph Regional High School in Montvale, New Jersey.
Per 247Sports’ composite rankings, Joseph is the No. 5 overall player in New Jersey, the No. 23 overall corner in the country and the 209th overall player in his class.
Penn State was in Joseph’s top five along with Georgia, Notre Dame, South Carolina and Stanford. He took an official visit to Stanford the weekend of May 31, Notre Dame the weekend of June 7 and had one to South Carolina scheduled for the weekend of June 21, which is presumably off the table now. Penn State became the clear favorite to land Joseph following his official visit, with both of 247Sports’ Crystal Ball projections— placed June 16– projecting Joseph to Happy Valley. He visited Penn State for the 2023 Blue-White Game and came back for the team’s season opener against West Virginia under the Beaver Stadium lights Sept. 2.
In an interview with Lions247 last month, Joseph praised Penn State’s celebrated defensive style.
How they play and how welcoming they are to me,” Joseph said of what stands out about Penn State in a May interview with 247Sports. “It’s a big family. (Joseph likes) the dog mentality and that one percent every play.”
