Transfer Portal: Former Penn State WR Finds new Home

A former Penn State receiver who entered the transfer portal last month has found a new school.

After three seasons plus this year’s spring practices with the PSU roster, Malick Meiga has committed to Coastal Carolina, he announced via X (formerly Twitter) late Wednesday morning.

By Meiga’s third season with Penn State, he was a team captain, which speaks well to his leadership abilities and overall popularity within the program.

Unfortunately for Meiga, he never broke out in Penn State’s offense. Through his three seasons, Meiga caught a total of nine passes for 106 yards.

More than half of those yards came on a 67-yard touchdown reception against Rutgers on the last home game of the 2021 season. From an on-field standpoint, that would prove to be the highlight of Meiga’s Penn State career.

It’s hard to say what Meiga’s role would have been on this year’s Penn State squad.

On the one hand, there was little based on his three seasons at PSU to suggest he would have gotten a lot of playing time in Year 4.

On the other, Allar credited Meiga and receiver Malik McClain on a Zoom call with reporters earlier this month for setting the tone for the whole room in the blocking department.

McClain has also entered the transfer portal.

Meiga will have two seasons of eligibility left. In the meantime, Penn State has a lot of questions regarding its receivers room.

Along with Meiga and McClain, Penn State also lost its leading receiver from  the 2023 season, KeAndre Lambert-Smith, to the transfer portal.

Lambert-Smith, who started at Penn State for four seasons, entered the portal soon after the spring window opened and ended up committing to Auburn.
