Without their leading scorer, Kanye Clary, who was out due to injury, and playing on the road, where it hasn’t won yet this season, Penn State basketball got a much-needed win at Rutgers.
Penn State (10-11, 4-6 Big Ten) came in a combined 0-8 between road
Starting in Clary’s place, D’Marco Dunn performed admirably, finishing the 14 points.
Also for Penn State, Ace Baldwin did was Ace Baldwin does, ending the night with a game-high 15 points, six assists and five steals. Qudus Wahab ended just short of a double-double with nine points and 11 rebounds. Rutgers (10-10, 2-7) turned the ball over 20 times and shot 1-for-17 from 3.
Penn State went into halftime up 26-24. D’Marco Dunn, playing in place of Clary, led all scorers in the first half with 11 points.
Penn State got out to an 8-2 run to start the second half.
PSU held steady through the U12 timeout, leading 39-33.
At the best media timeout, Penn State, still playing strong defense, led 46-39. Then, with 4:44 left, a 3 by Penn State’s Zach Hicks hit the rim, then bounced in, putting Penn State ahead 51-41. That proved to be the dagger.
Penn still will look to keep it going Saturday at Indiana. Tip-off is at noon.
