For Penn State to reach its goals in 2024, the receivers room has to be better than it was in 2023, it would probably help PSU to add at least one and possibly more receivers out of the transfer portal.
For more than two weeks, Penn State has been the favorite to land a former five-star WR who is in the portal from Ohio State in Julian Fleming.
Now, another former five-star has enter the portal from Ohio State, and his name is Noah Rogers.
Rogers didn’t receive any playing time as a true freshman this past season. The combination of his inexperience and Ohio State’s receivers room featuring players such as Fleming, Emeka Egbuka and, of course, the great Marvin Harrison Jr. making getting playing time about as easy as flying to the moon. Nonetheless, there’s no question Rogers has potential. He came to Ohio State after a standout career at North Carolina’s Rolesville High School. When he was a junior at Rolseville, Rogers attended Penn State’s annual White Out game, a win over Auburn.
After his visit, Rogers told Rivals.com that he talked with PSU’s tight ends coach Ty Howle. Howle grew up in Bunn, North Carolina, about 20 minutes from Rolseville. Rogers also occasionally talked to then-receivers coach Taylor Stubblefield, recruiting coordinator Chris “Slim” Mahon and, of course, head coach James Franklin.
Aside from Stubblefield, all of those people are still on Penn State’s staff.
“I like how much Coach Howle stays in contact with me,” Rogers told Rivals. “He’s always seeing how I’m doing, always trying to get me up there. I’ve only had a couple talks with Coach Franklin, but he’s really cool. A lot of other head coaches are kind of intense, but Coach Franklin is pretty cool. Even during an intense game, I was watching him during the Auburn game, and he never really lost his cool or anything like that. I noticed when one of his players made a mistake, he just tried to talk it out with them and doesn’t go too overboard.”
Rogers is worth keeping an eye on for Penn State fans following the transfer portal. But NC State is the early favorite to land his commitment. 247’s NC State insider, R. Cory Smith, placed a “crystal ball” projection for Rogers to commit to NC State.
Rogers has all four years of eligibility left.
