Penn State men’s hockey opened up its season Saturday night with a hard-fought win at Long Island.
The team has a lot of promise this year, after last season ended just one game short of the Frozen Four.
There were also a decent amount of students from Penn State’s “roar zone” that made the trip to New York.
Penn State got the scoring started in the first period on a goal by Matt DiMarsico. LIU fired back with two in the second period. The first was by Preston Brodziak 2:49 in, and Riley Wallack put LIU ahead more than two minutes later.
With 28 seconds left in the second period, Penn State tied it up on a goal by Ryan Kirwan. PSU took the lead with a little more than five minutes left on a Dylan Lugris goal. It held the lead for the rest of the night.
Penn State’s next game is also in New York, scheduled for Friday, Oct. 13 at Clarkson.
