‘You are an Incredible Young Man’: Penn State HC James Franklin, OL Coach Phil Trautwein Congratulate Olu Fashanu

Former Penn State LT Olu Fashanu is now a New York Jet.

Fashanu played for coach James Franklin from 2020-23.

He started the team’s Outback Bowl game against Arkansas at the end of his second season and never looked back.

By the end of his college career, Fashanu was one of the best offensive linemen in Penn State history. At the end of this season, he became the first PSU OL to be named a consensus All-American since Jeff Hartings accomplished that feat more than three decades prior.

Now, he’s off to the next level.

In a statement posted to his X account (formerly Twitter), Franklin called Fashanu “an incredible young man & football player.”

“We couldn’t be happier for you & your family,” Franklin wrote. “Your love for the game, dedication & hard work will continue to stand out in your professional career. The @nyjets are extremely lucky to have you! #WeAre

Fashanu’s position coach for all four seasons at Penn State, Phil Trautwein, also released a statement.

In it, he wrote that Olu Fashanu was “ready for this next chapter with the New York Jets.”

“During his four years with us, he was determined to be great and always took a professional approach on how he did things, both on the football field and in the classroom,” Trautwein wrote. “He was always an elite role model for anybody in our offensive line room and the rest of his teammates. It was never about Olu, it was always about his teammates. He’s a great person who comes from an awesome family, and he will bring a high level of character to the Jets.”
