Report: Penn State has ‘Inquired About’ UNLV OC Brennan Marion

UNLV OC Brennan Marion is one of the hottest names on the coaching market, and Penn State is reportedly among those interested.

Marion’s a finalist for the head-coaching job at San Diego State and is also a prominent name among Power Five coordinator vacancies, of which Penn State is one.

Jacob Davis, who covers Arkansas for Sports Illustrated, reported late Sunday night that Arkansas and Penn State are among the schools interested in the 36-year-old for their OC job. Other schools include Notre Dame and Oklahoma, where he’d hired as OC, and head-coaching vacancies at Houston, Oregon State, San Diego State,  “and many more.” Penn State’s OC job opened up Nov. 12 when the program fired coordinator Mike Yurcich. RB coach Ja’Juan Seider and TE coach Ty Howle— who were previously co-OCs— have tag-teamed the role since then and helped Penn State to wins over Rutgers (27-6) and Michigan State (42-0) in the last two regular-season games. Head coach James Franklin hasn’t revealed who’s been calling the plays and almost certainly won’t do so before or after the team’s bowl game.

If Marion ends up being “one and done” at UNLV, he’ll leave quite a legacy.

The team finished the regular season 10-2, just its second winning record of the milimiim, and is playing in the Mountain West championship game for the first time in school history this coming Saturday against Boise State in Vegas at 3:00 ET on FOX.

As Davis laid out, Marion’s offense has statistically been one of the best in the country.

Nationally, UNLV is

  • First in in rushing touchdowns
  • No. 23 in
  • No. 19 in total touchdowns
  • No. 5 in the nation in Redzone scoring
  • No. 4 in 3rd downs.

Before UNLV, Marion was the receivers coach and passing game coordinator at Texas for a season and the receivers coach at Pitt for a year. At Pitt, he helped Jordan Addison win the Biletnikoff Award, presented annually to the America’s top college receiver.
