Penn State commit Connor Mirasola won the 195-pound title in the junior freestyle division of the 2023 US Marine Corps 16U Junior Nationals in Fargo, N.D. this week. His brother, Cole Mirasola, also a PSU commit, finished in second place at 220 pounds. The Mirasola brothers represented Wisconsin.
Connor Mirasola went 7-0 with seven technical falls for the tournament, including a 10-0 victory over Oklahoma’s Jersey Robb. Cole Mirasola also had four technical fall in the first four rounds of the tournament before winning a pair of decisions. He fell to California’s Cody Merrill in the finals by technical fall.
Connor Mirasola won two state titles and took first at this past summer’s Fargo. He also finished second at the U17 World Team Trials twice.
Cole won a 2022 state championship, placed fifth at the Fargo and seventh in the U17 world team trials.
FloWrestling has Connor ranked as the No. 15 junior in the nation and has Cole ranked No. 44.
In getting the Mirasola twins, Penn State coach Carl Sanderson dove into Big Ten territory. Wisconsin is Badger country, and Penn State and the University of Wisconsin have had many battles in many sports over the years.
Also for other PSU commits, Pennsylvania’s Dalton Perry took fifth place at 132 pounds, while Utah’s Kyison Garcia did not place at 132 pounds, but went 5-2 for the tournament with a pin and three technical falls.
