In recruiting news, Xavier Gilliam, a three-star Class of 2024 DE/OLB from Maryland’s Wilde Lake High School, has committed to Penn State football, he tweeted Sunday afternoon.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder is the second player to announce his commitment to Penn State within the past several hours.
Late Sunday morning, three-star OL Deryc Plazz (Jacksonville, Florida) announced his commitment.

Gilliam and Plazz were among the many who made their official visits to Penn State on the first weekend of what’s known to some as “official visit season.” Penn State’s OVs for the first weekend of June started Friday, the second, and ran through Sunday, the fourth.
Gilliam spoke about his official visit with Blue-White Illustrated.
“Penn State is definitely an amazing university and I really got to experience that over the weekend,” Gilliam said. “They’ve always been very consistent and showing interest in me ever since they offered. They’ve shown me a bunch of love. When I got on campus for my first official then, it was crazy. Everyone knew my name, even people I never met before. Stuff like that always makes you feel good.”
Penn State feels good about landing Gilliam, as well.
Penn State offered Gilliam in February. He also has offers from schools such as Boston College, Duke, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, NC State, Ole Miss, Pitt, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest and West Virginia.
With Gilliam and Plazz now in the fold, Penn State football has 16 in its 2024 recruiting class. If Gilliam decides to play on the edge in college, he’d be the first EDGE to commit to Penn State’s ‘24 Class. He’s also the first ‘24 commit from Maryland, a state that Penn State’s historically had great success recruiting.
