Penn State is reportedly interested in one of the biggest names still in the NCAA Tournament.
Kirk Bohls of the Austin American-Statesman is reporting that Penn State is interested in interim Texas head coach Rodney Terry.
Terry took over this season at Texas for fired head coach Chris Beard and led the Longhorns to a 21-7 record and a No. 2 seed in the tournament. Thus far in the tournament, Texas has defeated Colgate, Penn State and has a matchup in the Sweet 16 on Friday against Xavier.
Despite this success and national calls to name him the team’s permanent head coach, the administration at Texas hasn’t done that yet.
In this morning’s story, Bohls also says that California has interest in talking with Terry.
Before joining the Texas coaching staff, Terry served as a head coach at Fresno State and UTEP. At Fresno State (2011-18), Terry went 126-108, with one NCAA Tournament appearance. In three seasons at UTEP, Terry went 37-48.
Terry becomes the first coach being reported that Pat Kraft and Penn State has interest in talking to as a possible candidate to replace Micah Shrewsberry.
