PSU Wrestling Downs Wisconsin 28-11, in Return to Mat

After a two-week holiday break, Penn State wrestling got a 30-10 takedown advantage in a 28-11 victory on the road at Wisconsin on Friday night.

The biggest win of the night came at 157 pounds as Levi Haines started in place of Terrell Barraclough. Haines earned a 16-6 major decision over 16th-ranked Garrett Model to put the Nittany Lions up 12-8 at intermission.

Haines wasn’t the only backup to compete on Friday, as Matt Lee competed at 165 pounds in place of Alex Facundo. Lee dropped a 17-6 major decision to fourth-ranked Dean Hamiti.

Along with Haines, Roman Bravo-Young (133), Beau Bartlett (141), Carter Starocci (174), and Max Dean (197), all picked up major decisions on the night. Aaron Brooks took a 16-0 technical fall in the second period at 184 pounds, while heavyweight Greg Kerkvliet got a 6-2 decision over Trent Hillger.

At 125, Gary Steen lost by a technical fall. The only other loss was a hard-fought one as Shayne Van Ness fell to No. 2 Austin Gomez at 149 pounds.

Penn State will take another two weeks off before coming home for the first Bryce Jordan Center dual meet of the year on Jan. 20 against Michigan. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
