The Lions and Gophers played a two-game series back in November, when Minnesota was No. 1.
The teams split in Minneapolis and will play another two-game set Feb. 17-18 in Happy Valley.
PSU is 0-2 since 2023 began, being swept at the hands of No. 15 Michigan State this past weekend in East Lansing. Both losses came in heartbreaking fashion. PSU fell to Sparty 3-2 in overtime Friday night and followed that up with a shootout loss Saturday. The team looks to get back on track this weekend with a big non-conference series against Notre Dame in Happy Valley. Penn State takes on Notre Dame Friday at 6:30 and Saturday at 5.
The five teams ahead of Penn State are;
No. 1 Quinnipiac
No. 2 Minnesota
No. 3 Denver
No. 4 St. Cloud State and
No. 5 Boston.
PSU fans of all sports will be happy to see that the team is one spot ahead of No. 7 Ohio State. The Lions and Buckeyes split their first regular-season series Dec. 2-3 at PSU, and have two more games scheduled in Columbus Feb. 3-4. Right behind Ohio State is Michigan at No. 8. Penn State split a home series with Michigan in early November, when Michigan was No. 1 in the country. The teams will play another series Jan. 27-28 in Ann Arbor, which will be Penn State’s next two Big Ten games. Michigan State is the fourth and final ranked Big 10 team at 15. Penn State finished its regular season series with Michigan State 1-3, also splitting a pair of games in Happy Valley back in November.
Penn State ends its regular season with games against Wisconsin Feb. 24-25 at Pegula.
