Cameron Lenhardt, a Class of 2023 four-star edge rusher out of IMG Academy by way of Staten Island, New York will announce his final commitment on Jan. 3, and Penn State is in his top five schools.
Penn State is in the running with Georgia Tech, Maryland, Nebraska and Rutgers for the commitment of Lenhardt.
Lenhardt (6-foot-3, 240 pounds) is the No. 56 player in Florida, the No. 37 edge rusher, and the No. 308 player nationally according to 247Sports composite rankings. Lenhardt has also been selected in the 2023 All-American Bowl.
He decommited from Nebraska on Sep. 18 after it parted ways with former head coach Scott Frost and defensive coordinator Erik Chinander. Lenhardt chose Nebraska over Penn State and Michigan State on Aug. 24.
Lenhardt is a prospect that was primarily a hand-in-the-dirt defensive end playing for Don Bosco Prep in New Jersey. He then started to play more of a three-technique interior lineman at IMG, which could be his best fit at the college level due to his relative lack of length. He has an effective swim move and knows how to gain leverage at the line of scrimmage to get the upper hand against offensive linemen.
Penn State would be elated to add Lenhardt to Jameial Lyons, Mason Robinson, and Joseph Mupoyi to their edge rush room to balance out its 2023 recruiting class.
