Three Virginia Football Players Killed Sunday Night in Campus Mass Shooting

Three Virginia Football Players were shot and killed Sunday night in a campus mass shooting. The suspect, pictured above, is currently in custody.

Former Virginia football player Christopher Darnell Jones Jr. allegedly shot and killed three juniors in wide receivers Lavel Davis Jr. and Devin Chandler and linebacker D’Sean Perry, as well as wounded two others in a parking garage around 10:30 p.m. Sunday night.

The UVA Police Department tweeted out a picture of Jones, the same as his Virginia roster football picture, and announced they he is the suspect in the shooting. They said he wore a burgundy hoodie or jacket, blue jeans and red shoes. UVA Police also said that he is likely driving a Black SUV with Virginia plates

University of Virginia President, Mike Ryan, released a statement at 4:30 a.m. Monday morning that acknowledged that Jones is suspected at having killed three people and wounded two others. The statement also told Virginia students to shelter in place and to follow the guidance they receive through the UVA Alert system.

Ryan also announced that the university cancelled classes for Monday and that only essential employees needed to report to work. Their basketball game against Northern Illinois has been cancelled.

“This is a message any leader hopes never to have to send, and I am devastated that this violence has visited the University of Virginia,” Ryan wrote in his press release.

Penn State released a short statement via Twitter regarding the tragic shooting.
